Onion sambar



INGREDIENTS:
Onion - 1
Small Onion- 15 nos
Tomato -2
Potato - 2
Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
Tamarind - small lime sized ball
Oil - 2 tbs
Mustard seeds - 1 tbs
Urad dal - 1 tbs
chana dal - 1 tbs
Curry leaves - 4
Tumeric - 1/2 tbs
Jaggery - 1 tbs
Salt for taste
Chopped corainder for garinshing
MASALA:
Urad dal -1 tbs
Chana dal - 1tbs
Jeera - 1 tbs
Corainder seeds - 3 tbs
Hing - 1 pinch
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tbs
Whole red chilli - 5 pcs
METHOD:
Wash the toor dal
Cook the toor dal , tomato and potato with pressure cooker with water and oil
Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of water for 15 mins and squeeze it out by adding little water
Heat the oil and fry all masala ingredients except cocount until they become light brown
Grind masala ingridients with cocount and little water until they bcame fine paste
Heat oil in pan and add mustard seeds , channa dal and urad dal once it creeks add curry leaves and add onion & fry it till it become brown colour.
Add tamarind water and jaggery and let it boil for 5 mins & then add cooked toor dal , tomato & potato and let it for 10 mins & then add masala and let it for 15 mins.
Add salt for taste.
Garinshing the sambar with chopped coriander and serve the hot sambar with idly or vada.
